It IS Called Work After All
Melissa · April 27, 2026
A good part of our week is spent at work. But have you ever noticed that one person's cube/work place that seems to bring them joy? Why? What do they know that you don't? Have you ever considered spending as much time making your work place as welcoming as you have your favorite spot at home? (And please tell my little hygge-heart that you DO have a space at home that you love.)
Here are our ideas for things to make the work day a little easier, more fun, or more comfortable. Because if you're going to spend hours doing something, you should enjoy WHERE you're doing that thing.
OFFICE WORKERS (my personal specialty)
1. Warming mug
NextMug and Ember make sleek designs to keep that caf cookin' for $85 - 100. For a beautiful, artsy option OHOM offers the UI Artist Collection for around $125. This would be a nice gift for everyone to chip in for the Office Admin. After all, everyone knows that they keep the office humming.
2. Beautiful pens
I got my first "nice" pen for my college graduation. There is something that feels very special about a nice writing implement, even as we are writing less and less these days. My favorite pens are Cross pens that have a wide variety of styles and replaceable inserts when you finish handwriting the next Great America Novel and want to get started on the sequel (or just take meeting notes).
3. Notebooks with an edge
It's hard to take things too seriously with a notebook cover that says "My List of Things I Was Right About". WTF Notebooks has some (mostly) safe for work notebooks that will have you bonding with your co-workers in no time. "Meetings That Could Have Been Emails" anyone?
OUTDOORS OR ON THE GO
1. Things to keep you warm (or cool)
What to do when your "office" has a mind of it's own when it comes to the temperature setting? Ororo has a wide variety of rechargeable heated vests that help keep the core warm on the coldest days. Conversely, opt for Frogg Toggs or Mission cooling towels to keep things cool.
2. Office Mobility
Working from home? Psht...try working from car. Or truck. Or some other mode of transportation. Carhartt makes a heavy-wearing and trendy front seat organizer to keep all those essentials close at hand.
3. Safety and Sun Protection First
Farmers Defense has become my go-to for clothing that doubles as sun protection. Their hats and sleeves come in a variety of prints and color and keep the dreaded sun burn at bay.
